The price of gas was 2.85 yesterday and today it fell to 2.80. What is the percentage decrease?
I wanna move to wherever you live. I'm paying 3.15!!! But whichever planet you're on, the drop here would be .05/2.85 The equivalent "percentage" is 100 times that.
No, I wish it was that cheap where I live but this unfortunately is just a math question that is on a quiz I am doing!!! I am terrible at math and have no clue how to figure this stuff out, hence the reason I am asking this!!! So it is .05% decrease then?! Thanks!
I'm paying 3.14 currently by the way!!! So we are not far apart on that one!
Now it says to round that to the nearest tenth?!
I'm a blonde in math!
No, it is not a .05% decrease. Look at my comment again where I said "the drop here would be .05/2.85" What is .05/2.85 ?
What about this one; a pancake recipe requires 2 and one quarter cups of milk and one cup of flour; how many cups of flour would you need if you used 3 and 3 quarters of milk? I put one and one half? Not sure!
Wait! We haven't even figured out the last one yet!! What is .05/2.85 ?
Would it be a .02% decrease then? Do you divide .05 in to 2.85?
- "Do you divide .05 in to 2.85?" No...that would be 2.85/.05 which is a relatively astronomical number. Take your caculator and do this: Enter the number .05 Hit the "divide" key. Now enter the number 2.85 Hit the "=" key. Tell me what the calculator says.
That's how I got .02% by dividing
I know it gives a large number if you type it in to the calculator the wrong way but the way I did it like your saying gave me .017
or I rounded and that where I got the .02 from!
That's not percentage. That's a decimal part. You need to convert the decimal to get a percentage. But even then, .02 is a rounded decimal.
WAIT!!! YESYESYES!!! The .017 is the number you're looking for!!!
Okay, so how do I convert it?!
But .017 is a decimal quotient. You still have to convert it into a percentage by multiplying it by 100.
1.7%
which makes sense!
BINGO!!!!! You got it!!!! :-) 2.80 is a 1.7% decrease from 2.85!!
Thank you!
No problem! Glad I was able to help! :-)
Okay, so what about the other question, do you think you can assist me with that?!
Sorry, I'm trying to answer 3 different problems here. :-) So you mean the pancake one? Let me look it over for a minute...
Yes and thanks!
Okay, so you can read it as the recipe calls for 2.25 cups of milk per cup of flour That's the same as 1:2.25 or 1/2.25 as many cups of flour as milk. 1/2.25 = 0.444, so if you used 3.75 cups of milk you would need .444 * 3.75 cups of flour
Okay, thanks!!!
No problem!! :-)
