Find the order of (1,4,2,3,5)(1,3,4,5).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know

OpenStudy (loser66):

what is "the order" ?the question is unclear.

OpenStudy (loser66):

is it cross product of 2 sets? I mean your post lack of X between the two?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i believe the order is the cycle with the most elements, and its the number of elements ....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that does look like the last one, so id say the order is 3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

" The order of a permutation is the least common multiple of the lengths of the cycles" .... hmmm, i might have to review that

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we had disjoint cycles of 3 and 2, the LCM would be 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is how the question is on my paper. I figured the order to be (5,4,1)(3,2)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the disjoint cycles are: (5,4,1)(3,2) the lengths of them are: 3 2 the least common multiple of 3 and 2 is: 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok.

OpenStudy (loser66):

@amistre64 how the length of (3,2) =2?
