Read the statement shown below.
“A tiger is a cat, and a cat has two legs.” Which statement has the same truth value as the above statement?
A poodle is a cat, and a dog has four legs. An ostrich is a bird, or all birds can fly. An ostrich is a bird, and a bird has two legs. A poodle is a dog, or a poodle has two eyes.
A tiger is a cat ... true or false?
true
a cat has two legs... true or false
false
so “A tiger is a cat, and a cat has two legs.” is false because BOTH pieces need to be true for the whole thing to be true
so what you're doing is looking through each answer choice and seeing which answer choice is also false
that's what it means when you want to find something that has the same truth value
is it " An ostrich is a bird, or all birds can fly."?
Wait jk, is it "A poodle is a cat, and a dog has four legs."?
I hate assertions like that...they always leave me wondering if the proposer is saying a 4-legged animal has at least 2 legs, or saying a 4-legged animal only has 2 legs. :-)
" An ostrich is a bird, or all birds can fly." is true because the first part is true (and that's all you need when you are dealing with an "or") "A poodle is a cat, and a dog has four legs." is false because "a poodle is a cat" is false
so yes, it's "A poodle is a cat, and a dog has four legs."
Thanks!
