What Happens when we breath in and breath out??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when we breath in, we breath in oxygen. When we breath out, we breath out carbon dioxide.

For Solving this Question, I would like to ask you that, do you have the detailed conception of : when we breath in, we breath in oxygen. When we breath out, we breath out carbon dioxide.

I'm not a biologist, but I can share my questionable input. Wikipedia might help! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respiratory_system We breathe in many gasses, from the atmosphere. I think it's about 16% oxygen - you'll have to look that up. We also breathe other gasses, but we tend to focus on oxygen. Lungs are expanded or contracted to pull in or push out air, respectively. This allows for gas exchanges between the lungs and the outside world. Air goes through some tubes (trachea, bronchi (?) ) where it enters the lungs. Gasses, hopefully oxygen, dissolve through thin tissue that bond with the iron in red blood cells. I believe there are sacs called alveoli (that's the plural). http://sbi3u1rmcdonald.edublogs.org/2010/06/05/take-a-deep-breath-are-you-ready/ That might help, there. And, somehow oxygen gets used and carbon dioxide (and chemical energy) is produced. This carbon dioxide needs to get out, so it does so through the lungs. I guess the red blood cells would transport it, but I can't be sure. Good luck!
