Which of the following points lie in the solution set to the following system of inequalities? y > -3x + 3 y > x + 2 (2, -5) (-2, 5) (2, 5) (-2, -5) @Mertsj @rizwan_uet

OpenStudy (primeralph):

2,5

OpenStudy (andriod09):

Prim, giving another an answer isn't allowed my the CoC located here, have yourself a read, I suggest it: http://www.openstudy.com/code-of-conduct Do you know how to solve equations? by adding/subtracting hem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It confuses me greatly, but kind of, yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just put in the set of points and see what satisfies the equation

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@andriod09 sure; wont happen again.

OpenStudy (andriod09):

want me to walk you though it? @unheard

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes please.

OpenStudy (andriod09):

First thing is first, make sure the equations are lined up, like they are. So then you have: \[y > -3x + 3\] and \[y > 1x + 2\] now, you're trying to get "x", what do you do first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plug in one of the answer choices for x?

OpenStudy (andriod09):

no, not yet. you need to isolate x, what do you do to the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Subtract it from the number to the right?

OpenStudy (andriod09):

What number to be precise? the -3x-1x, or 3-2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3x-1x

OpenStudy (andriod09):

okay, what would you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4x

OpenStudy (andriod09):

okay, then what would you do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know.

OpenStudy (andriod09):

What else do you have? you have this now: \[y > -4x + 3\] \[y > 2\] what do you do next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3-2?

OpenStudy (andriod09):

and you would get what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1

OpenStudy (andriod09):

which would leave the equation to what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know >.<

OpenStudy (andriod09):

\[y>(-4x)+1\] is the problem now. now you plug in the answers, and find which one fits, and you would cancel out the y's, and get \[0>(-4x)+1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm confused.

OpenStudy (andriod09):

wait, my fault. i fail. you don't cancel out the y's. (sorry!!!) take the 8 points, and work out the equations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's 2, 5 correct?
