how would you re-cite in MLA, a biblical quote that has already bean quoted in the article. With a tutor, I quoted it this way , “When 1Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” And he 2answered, “What peace, aso long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many? (2 Kings 9:22)” (“Jezebel - Women of the Bible”). I was instructed by tutor to continue the quote including what the article cited as part of my full quote and than close the quote and cite the article. is this right?
Hi! First, you should include the entire quote in double quotation marks ("); the internal quote (in this case, the words from the bible) in single quotation marks ('). The in-text citation style for MLA is on the Purdue OWL: Citing the Bible: In your first parenthetical citation, you want to make clear which Bible you're using (and underline or italicize the title), as each version varies in its translation, followed by book (do not italicize or underline), chapter and verse. For example: Ezekiel saw "what seemed to be four living creatures," each with faces of a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle (New Jerusalem Bible, Ezek. 1.5-10). If future references employ the same edition of the Bible you’re using, list only the book, chapter, and verse in the parenthetical citation.
In this case, you are citing a citation, so the article citation takes precedence. If you want to add parenthetical information about the passage, include it in your text for the paragraph instead. For example: Author X discusses the significance of this passage in Kings 55:72 of the New Oxford University Bible: "original text from the article 'bible text' text from the article" (Wordsworth 263).
Additionally, if you're taking the information from this unverified web source ( http://www.wordlibrary.co.uk/article.php?id=162), then you need to carefully craft your citation for the webpage. It could be a dictionary/encyclopedia source.
You can find the author for this page by printing a copy... Our authors Finally, the names of the all our authors are now being made avaliable on the 'Printer friendly page'. Clicking on this link and printing the same page should show the author's name. Also, when you click on the 'Get e-mail copy' all articles sent to your email account should also contain the authors name. This functionality is still being implemented and not all articles may have it yet. Thank you for visiting and God bless Dele Oke Editor Living Word library
