sinx = √3cosx solve
start with looking at a unit circle for sin and cos
how do u know if there is more tan one answer
*than
looking at the unit circle, you can tell when a value will be negative or positive
sinx/cosx=\[\sqrt{3}\] tanx=\[\sqrt{3}\] x=\[\pi\]/3 or 60 degrees
i understand that part...the answer i got is tanx = pi/3 but its also 5pi/3
tan(pi/3) and tan(5pi/3) are the same
yes there'll be many pi/3 s you gotta tell the domain of x
do u have to list all of them?
there would be an infinite amount
o alright...in the lectue notes that i was reading for my class it says to subtract the answer from 2pi to get the other values
it works sometimes but not all the time
\[\sin x=\sqrt{3}\cos x\] \[\frac{ \sin x }{ \cos x }=\sqrt{3}\] \[\tan x=\sqrt{3}=\tan 60,\tan \left( 180+60 \right)\] \[x=60,240\]
in these kind of problems the domain of x is provided check the ques once again
ok thank u for the help
ooo ok now i see what your explaining the range they give is from o to 2pi
thanks again
in 0 to2 pi only two solutions 60,240 i.e pi/3, pi+pi/3
yes
