#5: Why did the Soviet press call Margaret Thatcher the "Iron Lady"? A. She was hard-nosed and unfeeling toward her constituents. B. She rode around London in an iron carriage. C. Her foreign policy with democratic nations was ironclad. D. She demonstrated an unbending opposition to communism. ***my answer: D is that right? :)
1) I agree with (B), nice job! The guy continued to write against the Communists even when Gorbachev was in power. 2) (B) is also right! The Muhahideen were the Afghan resistance that fought the Soviets and whom the United States aided with supplies and weapons like Stingers. 3) That's also right. (D) is what a lot of people were comparing the Soviet situation to since the conditions seemed to be very similar -- a vast, professional army continually harassed by a smaller, more fragmented, enemy that they could not decisively defeat. 4) Yep, it was Ronnie Reagan. He made a speech in which he referred to the Soviets as an evil empire. He was pretty rough on the Soviets -- he talked tough and wasn't afraid to show that he wanted to confront them. One of Reagan's nicknames was "Ronnie Raygun" probably because of his ideas about SDI. 5) (D) is right on. She was compared to being the UK's version of Reagan when it came to her stance on Communism. She and Reagan were like peas in a pod...politically speaking.
lol :P yayyy!! omg i didn't know that! that's funny that they gave him that nickname :P
