1) I'd go with (B). During the war the US opened their factories up to women who went in and helped to build many things such as bombers and fighters because so many men went off into the armed services. It was a kind of freedom that they normally did not expect to have because of how gender roles were perceived back then. 2) From what I can tell, your answer here is correct -- (D) Rachel Carson. 3) I'd go with (C), too. After WW2, there was a stronger feeling for women to get out of the house and take on more and more roles that defied the stereotypical housewife mold that was prevalent at the time. 4) I'd also go with (A). As silly or as "old fashioned" as it sounds today, back then, that was an unquestioned social role for women in society. Women did not get many opportunities to explore things outside of the stereotypes that society placed on them. In some ways, they're still fighting against that kind of inequality today. 5) Actually, it's (D) Valentina Tereshkova. Sally Ride is best remembered for being the first American woman in space -- many, many years later. The Russians really did have a head start with all of that space stuff way back then. You're young, you still can if you wanted to work at it! And who knows? Given a few more years, we might actually have rocket planes that take us close enough to be in space anyway. :)
