what is the difference between a unbanked curve and a banked curve?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When a car is going round a curve there is a centripetal force pushing the car away from the center of the curve. The only thing that counteracts this force and keeps the car from skidding is the friction on the tires when there is no bank. When there is a bank some of the weight of the car due to the incline is helping counteract the centripetal force. So you get friction of the tires as well as the weight of the car thus you can now have faster speeds round the curve.

don't use the word COUNTERACT .. so its not that when the car is taking the turn there IS A CENTRIPETAL FORCE..you shuld say that the car NEEDS A CENTRIPETAL FORCE.. the friction ITSELF PROVIDES THE NECESSARY centripetal force.. the weight of the car helps PROVIDE THE NECESSARY CENTRIPETAL FORCE... if you say counteract.. it makes a huge difference.. :)
