-16n^2+72n+520=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know the quadratic formula??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since, these numbers are very large to work it you could simplify it by dividing the whole equation by 4.....you could also choose to work with the numbers you have like that..... which do you prefer??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would just do the numbers i have, but do i just plug those into the formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes....that is all you need to do.... so if you do that, what do you get for your answers??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i believe i am quite off, i got 236.......(non terminating decimal) i believe i am doing something wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you post what you did??? so i can check it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i forgot /2(a) my bad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay......so now what do you get??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-7.48808170994, im pretty bad with this :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I messaged my friend on facebook he told me to do -b/2(a) before answering, is this correct?

OpenStudy (raden):

that's to get x-vertex :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah, so then i use the x vertex in the equation?

OpenStudy (raden):

wait, what the original question here ? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=\frac{ -72 \pm \sqrt{(72)^2-4(-16)(520)} }{ 2(-16) }\] is that what you did??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant n not x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so..i think the problem is coming from the calculations part....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright ill try again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[n=\frac{ -72 \pm \sqrt{38464} }{ -32 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So for one of the answers I got -3.878............. is this one of the answers or close to it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes....you got it right....but do not for get its rather supposed to be -3.879

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay.....so what do you get for the 2nd value of n??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8.379.........

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand it now thank you so much for your help :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw....(:
