@agent0smith ...can you help. I don't know if I am even doing this correctly.....If it takes 8/9 for the entire recipe and you are making 7/9...would you just subtract 2/9 from 8/9 equaling 6/9 equaling 2/3 ? Or am I way off on how to do this problem ???

If you want to make twice the recipe, you'd have to double the 8/9 right?

ie 2*8/9. 

If you want only 7/9 of the recipe, 7/9*8/9
