How did the Korean War impact the cold war?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, what nations were involved in the Korean War?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

North and South Korea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, those were the nations fighting. But a little known fact is that both sides got help from two other nations. Do you know which nations these were?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The United States, and I'm not sure what the other one was

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right! The United States sent in troops and suipplies to South Korea. Conversely, the North was helped by a little country known as The Soviet Union.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now, tell me. Which nations were the primary "aggresors" in the Cold War?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The United States and Soviet Union

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly, so what do you think this war did to the Cold War?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Made it worse?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep, tensions increased over this. Even more so when the Americans heard of things such as the infamous "Mig Alley." Mig Alley was an area on the Chinese/North Korean border (on the Chinese side) where the USSR kept Mig fighter jets so they could fly sorties into North Korea and gain combat experience. Basically this war was used by the two large superpowers as a way to fight a war without actually fighting a war.

Thank you, that was very helpful.
