evaluate (7pi)/6 to nearest hundredth. Angle is given in radians.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Take 7 times 3.14 and divide by 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not right- answer should be -2

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Then you have posted something incorrectly

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Do you mean: \[\csc \frac{7\pi}{6}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

csc is not on the paper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am I suppose to assume it is csc

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I wouldn't think so. Can you post a picture of the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don't know how but it is exactly like I entered

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Did this problem come from a book or a worksheet or where? Because it is obviously the wrong problem if its answer is -2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

worksheet

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So your teacher left out the function. Is that what you have been studying...values of the trig functions for various well-known angles from the special triangles and the unit circle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Well, we know that the sin of 7pi/6 is -1/2. The csc is the reciprocal of the sin so the csc of 7pi/6 is -2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I orginally answered -0.5

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Based on what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that is it-she left out csc. thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

based on nothing

OpenStudy (mertsj):

yes. And tell her that the problems are hard enough without trying to guess what the problem is!!! LOL
