Is marijuana bad for you? If so, in what ways?
I don't think it is right to say that it is outright bad. Marijuana was believed to be used as a common medicine until the late 1930's. However what makes it bad is when it is used in high doses and solely for mood elevation purposes. Medically, its has been observed that it can help in treating nausea and vomiting in cancer patients undergoing Chemo.
I believe many people think it is worse then it really is. It can't be that bad because it is given to people with illnesses (only in the medical marijuana states). I think it should be made legal.
No, its not bad for you. The only reason why it's band from the use of it is cuz the goverment cant tax it cuz anybody can grow it.
I don`t think so. Becuase it is not addictive and you can not overdose.
Though it's used for medical purposes, such as: nerve pain relief, stimulation of appetite for people with aids, & has even helped chemotherapy patients control nausea and vomiting; it is bad for you. THC is absorbed into the blood stream, activating proteins into the user's brain and spinal cord, producing short-term psychoactive effects, like euphoria and a sharp appetite. Prolonged marijuana use has been linked to depression, psychosis, anxiety, etc. Using pot at least 4 times a week can cause you to lose 8 IQ points. Pot smokers have higher workplace injury rates and school absences. In soldiers that smoke, they are twice as likely to develop schizophrenia.
@mkjones129 , It is addictive. People that smoke everyday or weekly become dependent on it.
"Prolonged marijuana use has been linked to depression, psychosis, anxiety" This hasn't been proven, it's more propaganda than anything. And sure, it's psychologically addictive, like food, the internet, video games, etc. but there is no physiological dependence exists unlike other psychoactive drugs, even drugs that a doctor would prescribe you. The downside to marijuana is the process of administration, the combustion of plant matter generates smoke and particulates which do damage lungs. There are ways of avoiding the smoke, such as it's preparation into edibles, teas, or by vaporizing it. I've actually done much research into the topic, if anyone wants peer-reviewed sources, i can provide them.
Marijuana does have its positives and negatives. However, in the case of your question, marijuana can be perceived as bad in two ways. The first is based on legalities of law. In this respect, it should be noted that marijuana is a schedule one controlled substance. This means that marijuana is considered a dangerous drug within the United States and could be a crime in select circumstances to use or possess in the views of police and/or drug enforcement. The second is based on health as the usage impact will certainly result in psychological impairment and/or dependence. So depending on the situation, marijuana can be considered bad for you under statute law and for your health.
@aaronq, I said long-time users became dependant on it. Meaning they act like they need it. Most people do get addicted, though. Some don't.
& I did research too. I found a great article about it on a science website, and another on a news type column.
