1. Review the movement of the blood through the heart. Discuss the advantage of a 4-chambered heart. 2. The pulmonary artery is joined with the other large artery(aorta) by a connection called the ductus arteriosus. Much of the blood bypasses the lungs to move directly into the aorta in the fetus. After birth, this short vessel should close. Why would the blood bypass the lungs?
This is a lab on the dissection of a fetal pig....just keep that in mind~!
Im gg to answer half of the 1st question><Sorry im just a beginner so if theres any mistakes pls let me knw! 1. The blood moves from: a) Right (S.V.C+Coronary sinus+I.V.C) to RA(right atrium) to tricuspid valve to RV(right ventricle) to semilunar PV(pulmonary valve) to pulmonary trunk to pulmonary arteries... b)Left (4 pulmonary veins) in LA(left atrium) to Bicuspid/Mitral valve to LV(left ventricle) to semilunar AV(aorta valve) to aorta to right & left arteries to arterioles to capillaries to venules to veins ..
advantage of 4 chambered heart-no mixing of oxygenated and deoxygentaed blood.in fetus the gaseous exchange is by placenta not the lungs since it cannot communicate with atmosphere. so blood in rt ventricle ejects only small amts to lungs which is rudimentary in fetus rest gets byepassed to lt side of heart thru pATENT foramen ovale ....
thankyouuuu
