((1+tan(x)/1-tan(x))=-((1+cot(x))/(1-cot(x))). Proving identity.

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

In the expression on the left, just divide the numerator and denominator by tan(x) to get the expression on the right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what I got left is 1-cot(x)/1+cot(x) proved right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*meant proved, right?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

how did you get a minus sign on the numerator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

applied the negative that's on the outside of the fraction in the second term.

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

can you please show your steps so I can spot where you may have made a mistake?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Opps, I'm seeing it. I have the wrong signs on my work. I flipped the first term. Hold on I'll re-work it.

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

ok - good luck! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have the first term completely cancelled out and only 1 left on that side. On the second term I distributed the negative(correctly this time) and have (-1-cot(x))/(-1+cot(x). Right track? Do I need to simplify anymore?
