The Rosetta Stone was important because it
The Rosetta Stone was important because it tells us most of the things about the ancient Egyptians and has the different writings. it also tells us about a ruler you barely hear about and his name is Ptolemy V. if they never found the stone they would have never found out about him or ancient Egypt.
That's right in a sort of roundabout way. The Rosetta Stone's most important contribution was that it allowed us to translate Egyptian hieroglyphics. Up until then, no one had any idea how to read anything that the Egyptians wrote or carved into their monuments. A lot of people thought they were just decorative. Once we were able to use it as a basis for translation work, suddenly, ancient Egypt opened up like e.cociuba said it did and we were able to learn a lot more about who they were and what their world was like.
