Can the lungs absorb gazes, "sprayed" liquids (like mist), small particles (like dust) ? If these substances manage to reach the blood, are these substances considered as nutrients by the cells, or are they considered as toxic substances and provoke an elimination reaction ? Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would say that they are considered as toxic because if you get lets say dust in your lungs you start coughing and have to see maybe a doctor... they would not be nutrients to the cells because dust and mist can be dirty and harm your blood

I agree that dust can provoke coughing, but a sprayed liquid or a gaz others than oxygen seems to be breathed without provoking an elimination reaction. So in these cases, do you think the substances entering the blood can be used by the cells ? Or do you think they will be transported to the kidneys or liver or skin or back to the lungs for elimination ? I haven't found more info about that. Thanks,

np and i do think that the liquids my be breathed withoug provking and elimination reaction.

To the 1st part, yes. To the second, most things are toxic that are suspended particulates. PM2.5 tends to cause asthmatic issues with people inclined to them (COPD, ect) and most of the really small things we are finding to be genotoxic (causes mutations, etc in DNA).
