Box and whisker plot help! Pleaseee

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Hello, my name is Stephen and I'll be your tutor. Would you mind telling me how much you know about Box and Whisker plots? I need this information to figure out where you're at and what you know.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Okay, that's perfectly fine. Are you familiar with domain, ranges, median, modes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope :(

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

First you need to put the numbers in numerical order and find the median (the middle number). Can you do that ?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Yes, Dancer, what Texas said.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yesss. Is the 1st one, D?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

let me check...I haven't even done it yet ...lol...hold on

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Texas, you can use an online calclator...

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

11, 13, 16, 18, 21, 23 , 24, 29....the median is (18 + 21)/2 = 19.5 Q1 = 13.....Q2 = 19.5...Q3 = 24....endpoints are 11 and 29. @Compassionate ....did I do something wrong, because the answer choices don't match my answer ???

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

D. looks the closest to my answer

OpenStudy (compassionate):

http://easycalculation.com/statistics/mean-median-mode.php

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

Is Q3 24 ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

your not looking for mean or mode @Compassionate .....this link does not help

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Actually, you need to find the mean median and mode to put in the plot...

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

no....you need to find the quartiles

OpenStudy (compassionate):

No...

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you do not need mean and mode....just median

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can i please just have the answers to these..

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

Let me check the 2nd one...hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Figure it out? @texaschic101

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

50,50,50,51,52,55,57,57,58,58,58,58,59,60,62,63,64,66,67,67 median = (58 + 58)/2 = 58 Q1 = 52....Q2 = 58....Q3 = 63...endpoints are 50 and 67 I believe the answer is B.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I would go with D for the first one :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'll tell oyu if they were right in a few. :)
