There is a theory that the farther north one travels, the larger that members of a species get. ie From Florida to Canada the White-tail Deer grow noticeably larger in Canada than in Florida. Devise an experiment to test this theory. List your independent and dependent variables along with your control.
OK, so what about this assignment is confusing you? Coming up with an experiment? Or the independent/dependent variables and control?
well you keep a white-tail deer population (about 100?) at 3 locations: in canada, in florida and as control, somewhere in the middle of these 2. Then you check on which location, the animals grow larger. Independent variables would be location and dependent variables the size of the deer.
I usually get the independent and dependent variables mixed up or wrong all together. thomaster's experiment looks good.
Yeah, it does. The thing to remember with independent and dependent variables is that the independent variable causes a change in the dependent variable. The reverse isn't true. So the location causes a change in the size of the deer, but the size of the deer doesn't cause a change in the location. At least, that's how I remember it.
Alright, thank you storm and thomaster. i actually have more biology questions that i hope get answered. i need a lot of help with biology xD
Haha no problem, glad we were able to help :)
