Does "a" have a value, or do we just leave it as "a"? If that's the case, then we would have: ((a+3)^2)/a - (3/5)/(a^2-9) Let's just look at the first half on the left: ((a+3)^2)/a (a^2+6a+9)/a a+6+(9/a) Now let's look at the right half: (3/5)/(a^2-9) 3/(5(a^2-9)) 3/(5a^2-45) I wouldn't simplify this any further, although I doubt there is any efficient way of doing so anyway. Now we can put the two parts together: (a+6+(9/a)) - (3/(5a^2-45)) In the end it still looks pretty crappy, but I guess that's the best I can do ^^" Hope that helps!
