ALGEBRA 2 HELP! If sin 0 = sqrt3/2, which could not be the value of 0?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

you mean theta? 0 with a horizontal line?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

use this unit circle http://www.regentsprep.org/Regents/math/algtrig/ATT5/600px-Unit_circle_angles_svg.jpg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes @primeralph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhh 0 is just theta xD That confused me for a minute. When we are dealing with sin, we are working with the y coordinates. So use the unit circle that jim posted and find a y coordinate that matches sqrt(3/2).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops, you actually wrote (sqrt3)/2, look for that one >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here are the multiple choice answers 60 degrees 120 degrees 240 degrees 420 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The degrees are listed on the chart too. The chart shows that it is 60 degrees, since at 60 degrees the y value is (sqrt3)/2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so as smokeydabear is saying, sin(60) = sqrt(3)/2 so that eliminates 60 as a possible answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh derp, we are finding what it CAN'T be, I'm sorry! >.< Then yes it isn't 60 degrees.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah they throw those tricks in to make sure you're still awake

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha @jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which is why you should always get plenty of rest before exams! Which I never do ._.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

...that's of course if math hasn't bored you to sleep already hopefully that's not the case

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes, definitely a good idea smokeydabear

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I have to go I will be back a little later. Thanks though.

Have to admit, it does get really tedious after a while, but not at this stage, so keep plowing forward Sue! Do you understand how we determined the above?
