Consider the line -8x-6y=-7What is the slope of a line parallel to this line? What is the slope of a line perpendicular to this line? I'm struggling with this concept and I'm trying to learn it before class starts next week.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

make y the subject of the relation. Whatever the coefficient of x is, that's the slope of a parallel line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to do that i would start by adding 8x to both sides or am i way off here?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

add 6y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm, so if I understand you right: i have 4/3 parallel and -3/4 perpendicular?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

parallel should be negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jiminy crickets, i have that on my paper too...geesh -4/3 parallel and 3/4 perpendicular
