What did african americans gain in World War II? What challenges did they face at the end of the war? What progress did they make in the postwar period? and What struggles might this group have in the decades to come? Can anyone help, do you know any information that can help, or do you know the information?
African Americans during the war moved north to take the place of men who had been drafted into the war, in factories. They gained some rights as soldiers.
At the end of the war, they faced great antagonism, as the rise of a new KKK began lynchings.
They eventually had the Civil Rights Act passed and also gained many working rights and employment opportunities through programs involving affirmative action which put quotas on working demographics.
gabriellerenee has a lot of good points to help with this question. In addition to what is being said, African Americans served but they also discovered that back home in the United States, prisoners of war (such as those from Germany) were being treated better than they were in day-to-day life. They didn't experience the kind of segregation that they did. Even after returning home from the war, many continued to experience bigotry and segregation even after so many had fought and died for their country.
Thanks so muchh(: wish i could give you both medals.
