HELP PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE Multiply. (2n^2+5n+4)(2n-4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2n^3 -8n^2 + 10n^2 -12n-16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that isnt in my choices ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:( @Luis_Rivera , caan you help with this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply everything in the big parentesi by 2n, then by -4, and finally combine like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4n3 – 2n2 + 28n – 16 4n3 + 12n2 – 2n – 16 4n3 + 2n2 – 12n – 16 4n3 + 18n2 – 28n – 16 ; out of these, would D , be right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathslover , help ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@smokeydabear

mathslover (mathslover):

No @adl_thoo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

UGHHHHHHHHH -_-

mathslover (mathslover):

Try it again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im trying.

mathslover (mathslover):

@Luis_Rivera has guided very nicely. Have you followed the steps given by Luis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You multiply each term by each term: (2n^2+5n+4)(2n-4) 2n(2n^2+5n+4)-4(2n^2+5n+4) Does that make it any easier? I don't want to do the whole problem for you.

mathslover (mathslover):

Nicely done @smokeydabear . Good to see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, i will try that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but see, when i do these steps, nothing matches my answer choices.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Show me your work, I'll try to find the mistake.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2n(2n^2+5n+4) = i get : 4n^3 + 5n + 4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*10n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 should not be there, you forgot to multiply it by the 2n.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be 8n ? o.O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep, now do the other half.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2n-4) ; would be ? 4n - 8n ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nooo, we split that up already remember? Start from where I left off above.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4(2n^2+5n+4) ; so youd multiplt the ()'s by -4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, so what is that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-8n^2 + (-20n) + (- 8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yepp, now combine like terms from that half and the other half.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4n^3 + 10n + 8n + -8n^2 + (-20n) + (- 8) = it'd be : 4n^3 + 18n^2 -28n -16 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where did you get the 18n^2 from? It should just be -8n^2. It looks like you mixed up a lot of things here, make sure you do it one at a time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it helps, try separating all the terms out visually too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:( i give up , thanks anyways.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you need me to walk you through it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, don't you dare give up >:0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it probably isnt going to help . i tried to understand it. i got a few paarts only.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer is 40 n^3 (2 n-4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it isnt.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay let me help some more: 4n^3 + 10n + 8n + -8n^2 + (-20n) + (- 8) After grouping the like terms... 4n^3+(-8n^2)+(10n+8n-20n)+(-8) Now can you do it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4n^3 ik thats the first part..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

& the end should be - 16 .. i cant figure out the middle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

may be correct, im not sure ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@thefoe1990 You shouldn't be giving out answers, we need to teach people rather than give answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Truee !! -_- i need to learn this .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is stumping you exactly? And don't say "everything", because we got this far.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol , the inside part is getting me. im confused with my like terms on the inside. i figured out 4n^3 at the first & -16 for the end.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tell me how you're getting the -16.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

tried to sleep..........

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually, all the answers include it, hold on lemme double-check work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk ? i seen a -8 & -8 , which made a -16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry that's my bad. Forget what I said...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its fine.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhh, you multiplied wrong when we did the -4 earlier.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh , im sorry :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-8n^2-20n-16 should have been the second half.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh , i see , i see .. sorry /:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My fault as well for not spotting it. Tis why I'm a bad teacher, I make too many mistakes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why Ralph, why...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lmaoo, shes trying to teaach me /:

OpenStudy (primeralph):

What Smoky, what............

OpenStudy (primeralph):

oh, did I mess something up?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm trying to teach her this, not just give out an answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha, you gave the answer dear..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean you technically explained it too, but it looks scary on its own.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its okay ralph. & ikr :(

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@smokeydabear I didn't know I was to go elementary in my explanation..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so anyway, now combine the two halves again, using the new right half.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@primeralph Sometimes you have to, not everyone gets it instantly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-_- i cant help im dumb :(

OpenStudy (primeralph):

now I look like the villain. Imma just go back to bed.... Good night.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lmao, no you are not dear.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can do it, let me pull all the numbers back together, I lost em xD 4n^3 + 5n^2 + 4 + -8n^2 - 20n - 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand everything up to that point?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes . i do .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4n^3 + 10n^2 + 4 + -8n^2 - 20n - 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant to write that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol , i know .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so just pair up all the like terms like I did before.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:o its 1:32 ? :O WOAH & im doing algebra? shame .. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so ill put all my like terms together.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

I hope you get it. Good luck.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks ralp:D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*ralph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welll, i guess ill go to bed /: THANKSSSS LOVESS FOR THE HELP !! i finally understand this problem <3 <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh you do? I need to make sure before you get off that easily =P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha , okay .

OpenStudy (primeralph):
