Check please! When Amie's family moved to Uganda, they had to pack everything in a shipping container. The inside dimensions of the container were as follows: 19ft. 3 in. long, 7 ft. 7in. wide, and 7ft. 9in. high. What was the volume of the container in cubic feet? Round your answer to the nearest cubic foot. I got 99 cubic feet. Is this correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Medals for an answer!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[V=lwh\] V=Volume l=length w=width h=height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you would have to also know that 1 inch= 1/12 foot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that help you rechecking your answer??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you convert the inches to feet...before you got 99 as the answer??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did this: 19.3*7.7*7.9* etc etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are wrong....the inches need to be converted into feet using the conversion..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So to do the first one it would be 19.3/12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[V=(19+\frac{ 3 }{ 12 })ft \times (7+\frac{ 7 }{ 12 })ft \times (7+\frac{ 9 }{ 12 })ft\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand what i have done??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the first one would be: 23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

19 + 3/12 = 19.25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get .25?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand why it is like that now??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because 1/4 in decimal form is .25?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand everything i have done??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think so now. Thank you SO much! You have helped tememdously! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are welcome...(:
