Solve the system, using substitution. What is the x coordinate of the solution? x = 2y - 2 and 3x - y = 14 A. 6 B. 4 C. 1 D. 0 E. no solution

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Do you know what they mean by "Solve the system, using substitution"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no im just trying to finish this assignment so i can go to sleep

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

To substitute you solve for one of the variables. Then you can plug that into the other equation. I suggest the second equation and solving for y since you need to find x.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Once you have y in terms of x in the second equation, you can replace the y in the first equation with all of that.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I am saying you start with this: If you take \(3x-y = 14\) and solve for \(y=something\), what is that something?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The correct option is A. 6 By substituting this value of 'x' in first equation, we get y = 4, and then x=6 and y=4 satisfy the second equation
