1) Wow, OpenStudy is just acting funky. But I managed to get back in and saw your question above and would say you're right! It's the only answer that actually makes sense. The Soviets didn't try to hide or protect the spirit of the Prague Spring -- he eventually crushed it by sending in Soviet troops.

2) I'd say (A), freedom of speech disappeared. Everything else doesn't fit. The reforms were eventually reversed after the Soviets invaded, Dubcek wasn't promoted (he was taken back to the USSR after the Soviets came in and eventually returned to Prague), and Two Thousand Words were definitely not published in Moscow. 3) You're right with (C). All of the other answers essentially describe life under the Communist regimes of each country. So much for a worker's paradise, eh? 4) Actually, I'd go with (B). In a way, (C) is kind of right -- the US presence was aimed at protecting both countries, but only within its interests namely supporting regimes that were anti-Communist even if they weren't democratically elected. US policy in Latin America during the Cold War was largely aimed at containment and interfering with Soviet intentions wherever they might be. 5) I'd agree with (C)! 6) You might be thinking of Africa for diamonds. :) In Latin America, mainly South America, I'd go with (D) iron ore. 7) Good answer. It's the Gipper himself, Ronald Reagan! 8) Good job! It's definitely (B). She was considered by many to be Reagan's counterpart in the UK -- both promoted fierce opposition to Communism. The other answers dont make much sense...especially the last one! 9) Again, nice work! Glasnost and perestroika were two of the reforms most associated with Mikhail Gorbachev in the Soviet Union. While they were great democratic reforms, they also had the unintended effect of bringing down the USSR in the long run which wasn't Gorbachev's intention. 10) You should be a botanist! That's right, it's (D) the Amazon rain forest. It's the largest of its kind of Earth. Unfortunately, it's also under threat from clear cutting efforts. Though we probably won't feel the affects for years, it's a disturbing trend considering what might be lost in the deliberate destruction of the rain forest in the years ahead.
hahaha yayy!! :) thank youuu!! :D u rock!! :D okay that's it!! :) Thanks sooo much! :)
