@InYourHead
I'll tell you ahead of time, I'm not going to give you the answers. I can help though, if you're up for a few Spanish lessons.
Okay, for number one would I change the verb to estudiando?
Yep!
But right before "estudiando," we need to have the correct form of the verb "estar."
For example, if I wanna say "I am studying," I would say...."Yo ESTOY estudiando." Get it?
Okay cool so it would be esta estudiando. I think I can do the first part then. For part B can you please explain how I would change the verbs to indicate they were a time in the past?
Okay. Do you know about the Imperfect tense?
For example...."Hablaba" is the imperfect form of "hablar."
Oh okay, so hablaba would be replaced with hablar and comia would be replaced with comer?
No.
Let's take a step back, and take a look at this sentence: "Yo estoy comiendo." That means "I am eating." You get that?
yes.
Okay, so now let's take a look at Part B, #1: "Marta comía en el comedor." It means "Maria ate in the dining room." We want to say..."Maria WAS EATING in the dining room."
We cannot say "Maria está comiendo." We have to use the Imperfect form of "estar."
would we use estaba?
Yes. "Maria estaba comiendo."
Oh thank you :) for part C can you give me an example of how to change the verb in the acabar de form?
Yes. We use "acabar de" when we want to say that something has just been done. For example, "Yo acabo de comer." It means "I have just eaten." We need to conjugate "acabar" into the correct form. And then we put an infinitive verb right after it.
Let's take a look at the first sentence: "Busco mi asiento." It means "I am looking for my seat." We want to say..."I just looked for my seat." So we need to correctly conjugate "acabar de," and then put "buscar my asiento" right after it.
I don't understand how to use it in the sentences I was given.
Okay, let's look at the first sentence again: "Yo busco mi asiento." Do you know the subject of the sentence?
asiento?
It's actually "yo." "Asiento" means "seat." It's the direct object.
"Yo" is the subject of the sentence. The subject of the sentence is whoever is doing the action.
"Yo busco mi asiento." It means...."I'm looking for my seat." You see?
Since the subject of the sentence is YO, we need to conjugate "acabar" into the Yo form. Can you do that?
Oh okay, yes. Acabo.
Wonderful. Now, what's the verb, in the sentence?
"Yo busco mi asiento." Do you know the verb?
busco is the verb.
Right. And what's the infinitive form of "busco"?
buscar?
Yes.
So, the entire answer to #1 would be... "Yo acabo de buscar mi asiento." You see ?
This whole thing can be done in two very simple steps: 1. Conjugate "acabar de" into its correct form, to match the subject. 2. Put in the infinitive form of the verb.
Do you think you can do #2? I can check to make sure you've got it.
Los acaban de auxiliares de vuelo sirven la merienda.
We have to start with the entire subject: "Los auxiliares de vuelo" And then we add the correct form of "acabar," "ACABAN de" And finally, we use the infinitive verb: "servir." ~~~~~~~~~~~
