Humans are part of complex ecosystems. Describe a few components of the ecosystem in which you live. In your answer: - identify three abiotic factors and their roles in the ecosystem - identify three biotic factors and their roles in the ecosystem @skullpatrol @whpalmer4 @dinosour1480 @dkysela @LazyBoy @love_jessika15 @LaShaun97 @LaVidaEsGran @FlaCaLOL

thomaster (thomaster):

Abiotic factors are things that are not alive, or do not originate from living things. biotic factors are things that are alive and things that originate from living things. Could you think of some living things and not living things that have a role in the ecosystem? I'll give you an example of an abiotic factor: water Most organisms need water to live. This is a huge role in almost every ecosystem. \(\overline{\underline{\LARGE{\color{gold}{\star~}}\Large\tt\color{green}{I\;Hope\;this\;Helps!}\LARGE{\color{gold}{~\star}}}}\)

why is my name up there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks it really does so abiotic factors would be water land soil

thomaster (thomaster):

Yes all non living things in nature, like Water, Air, Wind, Light, The sun, Soil, Temperature.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what i dont get how to identify their roles in the ecosystem

thomaster (thomaster):

Just think of what the function of this factor is and why it might be important for an ecosystem. The sun is an example. The sun is the most important abiotic factor in most ecosystem. The sun provides light and warmth. Without that the earth would be a dark icecube. For every factor you can think of a function. Why do we need wind? without wind the oxygen produces by rain forest won't be transported to other areas. Also some plants reproduce by letting the wind blow their seeds to another place. you can think of many more roles for wind. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and biotic would be animal, plants, waste but i dont know how to identify their roles

@thomaster

thomaster (thomaster):

What would be the role of a honeybee in an ecosystem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the make honey (sorry if wrong i am not smart)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@thomaster

thomaster (thomaster):

yes they make honey but that is not the main role in the ecosytem. To make honey they need nectar. This nectar is provided by plants. The bees dig in the plant to get nectar and at the same time the bee gets covered by the seed of the plant. Then the bee flies to the next plant and digs for nectar. Now the seed of the previous plant is left in the current plant and this will make the flowers reproduce :) (just a small explanation of this principle) The role of bees and some other insects in the ecosystem is to spread the seed of plants so that they can reproduce.

thomaster (thomaster):

Another one: Birds are biotic factors. What do they do for the ecosystem? Keywords are plant reproduction, fruits and bird dropings :P i think you can figure this one out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the spread seeds for trees and other plants and They poop out seeds and that spreads around plants

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@thomaster

thomaster (thomaster):

yes! 1 thing to add: the bird eats the fruit that contais the seeds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How does a survivorship curve help to explain the reproductive strategy of a species? Define two of the three types of survivorship curves, and explain the influence of reproductive strategy on that curve. Give an example of an animal that would have the type of curve you are describing. In your answer: - explain the relationship between the survivorship curve and a species’ reproductive strategy - define and give an example of one type of survivorship curve, the relative number of offspring, and the level of parental care - define and give an example of a second type of survivorship curve, the relative number of offspring, and the level of parental care

thomaster (thomaster):

I think you already have 3 examples of biotic and abiotic factors by now :))))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thanks can u help me with this next question

thomaster (thomaster):

could you post that in a new question? Makes it easyer for other people to find already asked questions they need help with :)
