BIOLOGY 11 HELP (easy questions) [pics]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm either very right, or very wrong. Could someone state the right answers? Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm positive the first one is right. The second one, I'm 99% sure... The others, not so much

thomaster (thomaster):

First one: viruses are classified by properties, not the cell they infect. Properties can be size or shape

thomaster (thomaster):

Also by chemical composition and structure of the genome

thomaster (thomaster):

i would say B

thomaster (thomaster):

you've got question 2 right :D

thomaster (thomaster):

almost sure 3 is correct too

thomaster (thomaster):

4 is d so correct 5 is also correct

thomaster (thomaster):

seems like only question 1 was false

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks so much! Can you help me with 5 more? That would be everything i need help with...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

See if you can look at these. If not, that's totally fine thanks! I actually haven't answered the last 4... see what you think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And I think number one is false...

thomaster (thomaster):

HIV is a retrovirus, and it definetely contains reverse transcriptase

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, so i was right after all... haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh nevermind... i was false

thomaster (thomaster):

A retrovirus does not contain a DNA genome, It has a RNA genome. so A is the answer

thomaster (thomaster):

For the second one, what do you think is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no wait, a virus?

thomaster (thomaster):

can you grow a bacteria in pure culture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It must be protist.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait! It is bacteria

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just read the question better. I think it's bacteria

thomaster (thomaster):

no :P bacteria, cyanobacteria and protist all grow on pure culture (not living) and they can be filtered/extracted. A virus is so smal it can't be filtered out of an extract. PLUS it won't grow on pure culture, it needs living cells to grown in.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So i was right when i said virus... ahh.. That TOTALLY makes sense. I guess I just didn't fully understand the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks

thomaster (thomaster):

hehe :P how about 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty sure it's protein coat.

thomaster (thomaster):

yep :) next

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since the bacteriophage physically injects the nucleic acid strand into the host cell, i would assume that it would make the product poisonous...

thomaster (thomaster):

No phages attack the bacteria and slow or stop the fermentation process, resulting in reduced product quality. So i'd say C :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh. thanks. as for the last one... I would say A. because a virus is mostly compiled of RNA and a protein coat... Am I right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mind you, it could be B. protein.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm gonna say B. Protein.

thomaster (thomaster):

they probably mean a bacteriophage with "virus". It's head is mainly protein

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, thanks for your help. Seeya!

thomaster (thomaster):

You're welcome :)
