17. the equation (x+6)^2+(y+4)^2=36 models the position and range of the source of a radio signal. describe the position of the sorce and the range of the signals. (3 points) I don't get this at all help please :(

OpenStudy (sk8rgirl12):

\[(x+6)^{2}+(y+4)^{2}\] I'm not sure I understand. seems like \[(x+y+10)^{2}\] I know it doesn't help much. I am still kinda young.

OpenStudy (sk8rgirl12):

As In should be in pre algebra, or learning algebra, stuff like that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just need the describe the position of the sorce and the range of the signals. part really ii need to explain it :/ im completely lost

OpenStudy (sk8rgirl12):

If its like a graphing thing, your best bet is probably graph 6 or 36 on the x, 4 or 16 on the y. If not, your best bet is coolmath.com . I learn almost EVERYTHING there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ill try that too

OpenStudy (sk8rgirl12):

That has to be one of THE best math assistance sites.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so that site is really confusing and hurts the eyes o.o too many colors

OpenStudy (sk8rgirl12):

LOL. I know, right? You just get used to it after a while.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

this is the equation of a circle the general form is \[(x - h)^2 + (y - k)^2 = r^2\] the centre of the circle is (h, k) the radius is r match your equation to the general form to find the centre and radius

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that much but what i don't get is how i would do the describing part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

describe the position of the sorce and the range of the signals <-- how would i do that

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well start with the origin and use compass directions 6 units west and 4 south of the origin and the signal strength is 6 units (the range)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i think i get it now thank you

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you could even draw a number plane and show the centre and draw a circle of 6 units..

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so the radio mast, centre of the signal is... as above...
