Does anybody have any idea how to build a mathematical model and description of Rubik's cube as well as figuring out how to solve it from that perspective?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

no idea, but I would start with linear algebra

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

web.mit.edu/sp.268/www/rubik.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was hoping to completely figure this out on my own. I'm sure I could easily look this up in google...but that's not nearly as fun. Any other mathematical challenges?

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

i heard group theory is helpful

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

yeah you could show its isomorphic to some group or ring or field...

OpenStudy (rsadhvika):

i know how to solve rubik cube, when i tried to analyze it a bit deep, without memorizing steps... it became difficult after solving first two layers. i found group theory is also hard to learn quickly...

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know how to solve the rubik cube i've done it at least 60 time all ready from every body messing it up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha, I've never even heard of group theory! Blah!

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

but you use it every day:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I bet I do! I just want to like...know everything mathematical. I just thought that'd be a great point to start at...but I really want to figure it out on my own, however I'm not sure necessarily how to notate and describe the situation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you want i can tell you the formula to the rubik cube

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

There is not a soul alive now or ever that knows everything there is to know about math:) pick an area learn the basics and rinse and repeat until you find the one you love.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've been in love with Calculus ever since I started it, but I wanted to tackle some real life situations and put these mathematical skills to work!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Being able to describe and solve a rubiks cube seems like a pretty useful application!

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

lol for what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For fun, of course!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

true that
