do you know that \[\log (2x-2)=4~~~~ is~the~same~as \log _{10}(2x-2)=4??\] the 10 is not written...

with that said, using the fact that \[\log_ab=x~~~~is~~the~~same~~as~~writing~~~~a^x=b\]
