OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

What is FOIL? How do you use FOIL? Please help me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This should help you figure it out>>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FOIL_method

OpenStudy (amistre64):

FOIL is a way to remember how to multiply, in case you forget how to mutliply ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, if you have a factored form of a quadratic equation say: (x + 5)(x +3) you use it to turn into the non factored form.. YOu multiply the first values in both parenthesis, so x times x = x squared Then, the Outer values, so x times 3 = 3 the same for inner, 5x and then the last, 15 Now you have x^2 + 3x + 5x + 15 x^2 + 8x + 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

FOIL stands for : First Outer Inner Last

OpenStudy (amistre64):

for example: (14) * (23) (10+4) (20+3) Firsts: 10*20 Outs: 10*3 Ins: 4*20 Lasts: 4*3 add em up: 200+30+80+12

OpenStudy (amistre64):

of course: FILO is just as effective, and IFOL, and LIFO, and whatever other combination you want to make of the letters

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Thank you, amistre64 and ChanHamm. I undersatand what FOIL is now. Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck ;)
