OpenStudy (nathan917):

Find P(both odd numbers). one-ninth one-fourth one-third four-ninths The two numbers rolled can be added to get a sum. Find P(sum is even). one-fourth fifteen over thirty-six one-half three-fourths

OpenStudy (nathan917):

OpenStudy (nathan917):

The sample space for a roll of two number cubes is shown in the table.

OpenStudy (nathan917):

@amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its just a matter of counting

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how many pairs of odd number are in the table?

OpenStudy (nathan917):

Half the table would be odd? so 15.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

not quite

OpenStudy (amistre64):

1 1 1 3 1 5 3 1 3 3 3 5 5 1 5 3 5 5 i COUNT .... 9 pairs of odd now how many pairs make up the sample space?

OpenStudy (nathan917):

I'm Not sure. i suck at math :( I was great in-till the end of the year i Got stuck on some stuff.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

6 rows, 6 columns ... what is 6 times 6 ?

OpenStudy (nathan917):

36.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then there are 36 elements in the sample space; 9 of which are odd paired; that gives us: 9/36 and simplify as wanted

OpenStudy (nathan917):

Divide both the numerator and denominator by 9 and you get: 1/4 or 1 over 4 or 0.25 1/4 is the fraction in simplest form.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then thats the answer for the first one

OpenStudy (nathan917):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

for the second one; it might be good to know that odd + even is odd; so rule out all the odd even pairs .... or only count the odd odd, even even pairs

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we already know there are 9 odd odd pairs; and if we count the even even pairs ... we get another 9 we know that there are 36 elements in the sample space (9+9)/36

OpenStudy (nathan917):

The answer is one-half

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct
