whats the square root of 134? is it even possible?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Possible? sure....but it wont be a whole number

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

Square roots of positive numbers will result in a positive number. Square roots of negative numbers will result in a complex number. It is possible.

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

You could even guesstimate it.. you know the square root of 121 is 11 you know the square root of 144 is 12 so since this number is between those 2....your answer will be between 11 and 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay how would I do this without using a calc?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

finding square roots without a calculator is a bit of a process...would you like to learn how?

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

134 is a composite number, so the factors are of 1 and itself. Since it is a composite number, it cannot easily be factored down, and this the \[\sqrt{134} = \sqrt{134}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure teach me

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

*since I cannot seem to remember exactly *missing a step* here is a good website for it...give 4 different methods http://www.solving-math-problems.com/calculate-square-root.html#Detail
