Write the equation of the line that passes through (–1, 5) with a slope of 2 in standard form.

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

The standard form of a linear equation is Ax + By = c, so build the slope-intercept form of the line first, then transform it into the standard form.

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

\[\large y=mx+b\]is the slope-intercept form. first you'd have to solve for b by inputting values of x and y. \[5=-1(2)+b\] by getting b, you would 1) the slope = 2. and 2) a y-intercept. (b) you can rewrite your equation then in slope-intercept form.

I don't get it...

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

Which part are you stuck at?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All of it, Like how do you do it? You gave me the formula but what the heck is a & b?

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

Try solving it the method which i showed you, @TheHero
