A group of ants attack a cicada, feed on it, and kill it, even though it is much larger than the ants. Which kind of relationship do the ant and the cicada share?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are three kinds of symbioses. Three kinds of relations, between organisms. I'll tell you about all three. And you can choose the one you think is correct. 1. Mututalism --- Both organisms benefit from one another. 2. Commensalism --- One organism benefits, and the other is totally unaffected. 3. Parasitism --- One organism benefits, by hurting the other organism.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mututalism!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what a mutualism is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Both organisms benefit from one another.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. Take a look at the question that you posted. The ants...KILLED...the cicada. The ants benefited from this. But what happened to the cicada? It frikkin died.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The cicada did not get any benefits.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh I get lol a little bit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an example of a prokaryote?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We're not done with the first question!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are two organisms here: 1. The ants. 2. The cicada. The ants ATE AND KILLED the cicada.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kind of. im blonde.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't care if you have frikkin PURPLE hair.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ants and cicadas are both animals. The ants ate and killed the cicada. In other words....on animal ate, and killed another animal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, the ants are happy. They got benefits, because they ate the cicada. What happened to the cicada? It died.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A "mutualism" is where BOTH organisms benefit, and are happy. Do you see why this ISN'T a mutualism?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh I get it so, Parasitism is the correct answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good job. GOOD JOB.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. So, now we're talking about "prokaryotes." "Prokaryotes" are organisms that don't have a NUCLEUS, inside of their cells. Bacteria do not have a nucleus. That's why they're called prokaryotes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following cells would not have a well-defined nucleus but would have a thick cell wall and ribosomes? A. Onion Cell B. cloi bacteria C. Human Brain Cell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You really don't know this one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll give you a hint. TWO hints. No, THREE hints, actually. 1. Plant cells have a nucleus. 2. Animal cells have a nucleus. 3. Humans are made of animal cells.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Onions are made of plant cells. Do plant cells have a nucleus?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. Like we said before, in the very last question...bacteria are prokaryotes. They do not have a nucleus.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The presence of which organelle indicates that eukaryotic cells have evolved from prokaryotic cells?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have anymore questions, you can make a separate post. I would help but I'm a bit busy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks though!

I have purple AND blond hair!!
