Wordsworth was famous for the imagery he used in his poems. Which of the following is an example of his imagery? A. THERE was a time when meadow, grove, and stream,/The earth, and every common sight,/To me did seem/Apparell'd in celestial light, B. The moon doth with delight/Look round her when the heavens are bare; / Waters on a starry night/Are beautiful and fair; C. both of these D. none of these
D
C. Both are imagery Imagery just means words that describe the visual scene that amplifies the meaning of the poem. It is "showing" rather than "telling", usually by appealing to the senses. These are both examples of imagery. In A he is describing a scene and using metaphor: "Apparall'd in celestial light." The image of nature (meadow, grove, stream, the earth) clothed in this divine type of starlight is Imagery. In B. you have personification. The night sky and moon are described as a beautiful woman. All of these images (a bare heaven, waters on a starry night) contribute to the meaning of these lines. This is also imagery - the poet is describing with various poetic techniques what this scene (a moon in the night) looks like.
@NikhilRam is right - Both examples use imagery in the writing. 'C' is the Correct Answer!!!!
Both would be an example of imagery. So the answer would be C. Even though A might be weak in detail, it's still sets an example of imagery, and B is defiantly one. Hope this helped!:)
