a plane flying with a tailwind flew at a speed of 430 mph, relative to the ground. When flying against the tailwind, it flew at a speed of 330 mph. Express these relationships as equations. Let x be the speed of the plane and let y be the speed of the wind

help please

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well we're letting x = the speed of the plane...and y = the speed of the wind so with the tailwind (adding the wind) x + y = 430 against the tailwind (subtracting the wind) x - y = 330 understandable?

oh okay. that makes sense! thank you :)

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

no problem! :)
