can someone explain the process of Meiosis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Interphase, DNA replication, Chromosomes condense, synapsis (pairing of homologous chromosomes) and crossing over, metaphase/ spindle, anaphase/ chromosomes separate, metaphase 1 chromosomes line up individually on spindle, anaphase 2 chromatids separated, 2nd division, (4) haploid gamete cells formed which are genetically varied. Helps?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats the difference between a diploid and a haploid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

diploid is 2n - n being the number of chromosomes because it has 46 di=2. Haploid is n - half diploid because it's a body cell and not a daughter cell it has 23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on :/ might not be right...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think that is right i know diploid is 2n and haploid is n.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then yeah, haploid have 23 and diploid have 46 chromosomes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've got it stuck in my head that anything beginning with Di is two of something :)
