factor the trinomial \[a ^{2}-9a+14\] @Jhannybean @mxolisi3903 Either of you two wanna help me with my trinomials? :)

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

what two numbers multiply to give 14 and add to give -9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you remember the factorials? \[(a+b)^2\\ (a-b)^2 \\ (a+b)(a-b) \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes @DanielM_113 and -2 and -7 @Jhannybean

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

ok,so you have -2 and -7, you want +14 but -9, so... \[\large a^2-9a+14\]\[\large (a-2)(a-7)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I shall give you an easy way to solve these problems. Take the 14. Which factors of 14 add up to -9? Well -7 and -2. There you go, the answer is (a-2)(a-7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you. :)

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

no problem ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this one prime? \[r ^{2}+4r-45\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What factors of 45 added together give 4?

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

hint: 9's table

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-9 and 5. I got this one then. Thank you

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

Thanks you guys!! :)
