What is the measure of XYZ ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Picture below

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just clarify if i have to use x = 1/2(mAB +mCD) to solve it

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Yes, here it is (1/2)(mVW + m XZ), with VW = 43, and XZ = 94

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks, now i feel more confident about doing these types of problems.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Can we go back to your previoous problem of this type? I misread it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Of course.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

I saw the Y inside the circle and was thinking of the measure of the angle that has y inside it. I misread the problem.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

This is what your problem looks like. |dw:1370308719629:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got it

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You are asked to find the measure of angle XYZ. |dw:1370308846808:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm going be mad if i did have to end up dividing the outer degree by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Was my answer suppose to be 43 degrees ?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

This angle is found directly using the formula we used: m<XYZ = (1/2)(mVW + mXZ) = (1/2)(44 + 86) = (1/2)(130) = 65 That is the answer.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The answer is the measure of anfle XYZ is half the sum of the two arcs, so m<XYZ = (1/2)(130) = 65. I misunderstood the problem thinking they were asking for another angle. That's why I told you to subtract 180 -65. That was a mistake of mine.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh it was x instead of y
