The owner of a large company is conducting a survey about job satisfaction, including questions about salary, hours, stress, and other conditions. There are about eight hundred employees in the company, including one hundred executive positions, six hundred fifty middle-management positions, and fifty custodial positions. The owner wants to include about ten percent of his employees in the survey sample. Identify a sampling method that might produce a biased sample. Explain why using the method for this survey would be a poor choice

look it up online

not there

OpenStudy (nurali):

The sample should be drawn proportionally from all levels of the staff. It would be no good to sample a disproportionally large number of executives, for example - they might be happier with their jobs than the others (higher salaries, better benefits) or they might be less happy with their jobs than the others (stuck behind a desk all day, unhappy with corporate environment, etc). The same arguments against disproportional sampling could be applied to any of the other groups.

There are about eight hundred employees in the company, including one hundred executive positions, six hundred fifty middle-management positions, and fifty custodial positions. The owner wants to include about ten percent of his employees in the survey sample. Identify a sampling method that would lead to a representative sample for the survey. Explain why it would be a good choice and give details about the process. @Nurali

OpenStudy (nurali):

800 employees, want to sample 10%, so the sample size will be 80. You want a representative sample with the same proportion of workers as the whole population. Take 10% of each of the different positions: 10% of 100 = 10 executives 10% of 650 = 65 middle managers 10% of 50 = 5 custodial workers So pick 10 random executives, 65 random middle managers, and 5 random custodial workers. That way your sample is representative of the population.

A biologist is conducting research on four different types of fish found in a local lake. The numbers of each type are shown in the table. A table shows the number of fish found in a location. There were ninety small-mouth bass found, two hundred eighty crappies found, sixty sunfish found, and one hundred twenty yellow perch found. She plans to use a stratified sampling method in which twenty percent of the total population is included in the studies. How many yellow perch will be in her sample? 6 twelve eighteen twenty-four @Nurali

The principal at a school with eight hundred students is considering changes to the lunch menu. She wants to get the opinions of all of the students about their favorite menu items. So she asks the first 5 students who get off the bus in the morning. Which statement does not reflect the situation? The sample is biased. The principal collected a representative sample. The sample size is too small. The principal used convenience sampling @Nu

OpenStudy (nurali):

the population is too small, it is convienence, and it is biased so the answer is B: The principal collected a representative sample.

The population of his study is twelve- to thirty-two-year-old people who text at least once a day. He wants to make sure that the whole range of ages is represented in the study. Which kind of sampling would provide the most reliable information for this study? convenience sampling simple random sampling systematic sampling volunteer sampling
