Given f(x) = –5x + 1, what is f(–2)?

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

that x=-2 and plug it into f(x) wherever you see an x

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

\[\large f(x)=-5x+1\]\[\large f(\color{green}{-2})=-5(\color{green}{-2})+1\]

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

simplify the equation i put above :) what is -5(-2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

good, :D now what is 10+1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

there you go!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was ...easy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Given f(x) = –5x + 1, what is f(–2)? -5(-2)+1 +10+1 +11

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

mmhmm, whenever you see f(some value) you input that "some value" into your equation FOR the value of x. so "x" would be replaced with "some value" and you'd solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, thanks

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

no problem
