Based only on the information given in the diagram, which congruence theorems could be given as reasons why ABC DEF? Check all that apply.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what types of triangles are these?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i put up a picture of the triangles

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I know, I'm asking you what kind they are are they acute triangles? obtuse triangles? right triangles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im guessing they are right angles

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

they are (the square angles)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so they are right triangles

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

because of this, we can use two special congruence theorems that only apply to right triangles

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

any ideas what they are?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hypotenuse- leg,and side angle side?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

close

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

HL and LL HL = hypotenuse leg LL = leg leg

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but since we don't know anything about the hypotenuse from the drawing, we can't use HL so we can only use LL

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what else can we use?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ha, and la?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct, this also only applies to right triangles (sry just had to confirm that) so if you know the hypotenuse and an acute angle, then you can use HA if you know one leg and an acute angle, then you can use LA HA = hypotenuse angle LA = leg angle

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what else

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can use others? angle angle side?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good, there's a lot you can use actually you can also use SAS the only thing you can't use is HL and HA since we know nothing about the hypotenuse

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but because we have info about both legs, the right angle, and we have one acute angle, we can use those other theorems

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer to my question would be LA, SAS, AND LL?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

AAS as well (I guess you didn't write that out since you already picked it)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANK YOU very much!!!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
