Which value of x is NOT part of the domain of this function? g(x) = 10/(x – 3) 1. 10 2. 3 3. -3 4. -10

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

the restrictions for a domain happen when the numerator or denominator give you a value f 0 or do not exist. In this case you have x - 3 = 0 in the denominator, what do you get when you solve for x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that the answer? lol

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

I'll explain. when you have x=3, what happens when you plug 3 back into the denominator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does it cancel out?

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

it "cancels out" or you could say it equals 0. And when you have a 0 in the denominator the function is undefined, right?

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

undefined at that point* in this case, x=3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much for your help.. :)

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

Do you understand how to find these undefined points?

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

And no problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I do, thanks :)
