If three inches of rope cost 7 cents, how much would 2 feet of rope cost?

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

3 in = 7 cents. There is 24 inches in 2 feet. So you can set up a proportion. \[\frac{ 3 }{ 7 } = \frac{ 24 }{ x }\]

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

The numerator represent inches and feet. While the denonimator represent the cent. To solve the proportion, you can cross multiply. So let see, your equation would be: 168 = 3x to solve for x, you must divide 168 by 3. This will give you 56. So x=56. X represent the cent. So 2 feet will cost 56 cents!!! I hope this help!
